In this note a deep review of the current official criteria for |
2 |
< |
ElectronID have been performed. This study has been done using $WZ |
3 |
< |
\rightarrow e^\pm \nu \mu^+ \mu^-$ where the $Z$ decaying into muons |
4 |
< |
will serve to select the event. The main background for such analysis |
5 |
< |
is $Z+jets$ production. Using the official robust cuts for this |
6 |
< |
analysis, we end up with a significance for 1fb$^{-1}$ of the order of |
7 |
< |
0.9. Taking such criteria as a starting point, new threshold have been |
8 |
< |
designed first to improve the significance of such channel then new |
9 |
< |
variable have been studied in order to select isolated electrons. With |
10 |
< |
this simple criteria which are using 6 variables with 2 set of |
11 |
< |
threshold (one for barrel, the second for endcap), we end up on the |
12 |
< |
same channel with a significance of 3.7 for 1fb$^{-1}$ integrated |
13 |
< |
luminosity. |

In this note we tried to summarize extensive studies of em-jet |
2 |
> |
discriminating variables. We come to conclusion that variables |
3 |
> |
that are utilized in the official ``Robust'' and ``Loose'' criteria |
4 |
> |
are very effective to discriminate against misidentified jets, |
5 |
> |
except for $E/p$ variable that we find less powerful than $E_{seed}/p_{out}$. |
6 |
> |
We also indicate that complexity of ``Loose'' criteria can be |
7 |
> |
substituted by a slight tightening of the thresholds, and similarly |
8 |
> |
``Tight'' criteria's performance can be achieved by introducing |
9 |
> |
a simple $H/E$ + ECAL isolation requirement that we refer to as $EMHAD$. |
10 |
> |
This result in five-variable criteria compared with seven variables + isolation |
11 |
> |
+ six categorization criteria. |
12 |

|
13 |

We also study the performance of various track, ECAL, and HCAL |
14 |

isolation requirements and come up with a few choices with optimal |
15 |

values of cone sizes. |
16 |

|
17 |

To summarize, a simple cut-based criteria is developed, mostly |
18 |
> |
based on variables used in the official selection criteria that |
19 |
> |
allows to achieve a significance of 3.7$\sigma$ in 1 fb$^{-1}$ of |
20 |
> |
integrated luminosity in $WZ \rightarrow e \nu_e \mu^+\mu^-$ |
21 |
> |
channel alone. |
