claudioc 1.1 \section{Introduction}
    \label{sec:intro}

avi 1.2 Same-sign isolated lepton-pairs are very rare in the Standard Model (SM) but
claudioc 1.1 appear very naturally in many new physics scenarios.
    In this paper we describe searches for new physics
    with same sign isolated dileptons ($ee$, $e\mu$, $\mu\mu$,
    $e\tau$, $\mu\tau$, and $\tau\tau$), missing transverse
    energy (\met) and jets. The results are based on
    a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity
    of 35 pb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions
    collected by the CMS\cite{ref:CMS} experiment in 2010 at the Large
    Hadron Collider (LHC) at a center of mass of 7 TeV.

    This paper is organized as follows. The CMS detector is briefly
    described
    in Section~\ref{sec:detector}. The reconstruction of leptons,
    \met, and jets at CMS is summarized in Section~\ref{sec:objects}.
    We then describe three complementary searches
    in order to widely cover the parameter space of new physics.
    The first (Section~\ref{sec:leptrg})
    is a generic search based on high $P_T$ lepton triggers and
    explores the high \met and the high $H_T$ regions separately,
    where $H_{T}$ is a measure of the hadronic activity and is defined
    here as the scalar sum of all selected jet $P_T$.
    The second explores a higher $H_T$ kinematic region at lower lepton
    $P_T$, and thus relies on hadronic triggers (Section~\ref{sec:Florida}).
    The first two searches concentrate on the $ee$, $e\mu$, and $\mu\mu$ final states.
    The third search described in Section~\ref{sec:tau} includes final states
    with hadronic tau decays.
