claudioc 1.1 \section{Introduction}
    \label{sec:intro}

    This note describes a preliminary extension of the CMS~\cite{JINST} search
    for new physics described in Ref.~\cite{Chatrchyan:2012qka}.
    The main difference between this analysis and that of
    Ref.~\cite{Chatrchyan:2012qka} is the center-of-mass
    energy (8 TeV here and 7 TeV in Ref.~\cite{Chatrchyan:2012qka})
    and the integrated luminosity (xx fb$^{-1}$ vs. 4.98 fb$^{-1}$).

    Briefly, the analysis consists in selecting events with two
    isolated, high transverse momentum ($P_T$), same-sign leptons
    ($e$ or $\mu$), and at least two b-tagged jets. The event counts
    in a number of ``signal regions'' defined in terms of additional
    requirements on missing transverse energy (\MET), the number of
    b-tagged jets, and the scalar sum of jet $P_T$ ($H_T$), is compared
    with expectations from the standard model (SM). Having found
    no evidence for a beyond the SM contribution to the event count,
    we set limits on the number of events from new physics in the
    event sample. These limits are then used to bound the parameters
    of interesting new physics models. Finally, we also provide
    additional information on the event selection efficiencies to
    allow our results to be reinterpreted in other models of new physics.
